Journal / First journeys

One week in India:
your first visit.

How to experience Delhi, Agra and Jaipur without turning a remarkable journey into a race.

Seven days is enough for an unforgettable introduction to northern India—if you choose a focused route and leave space for the unexpected.

The classic Golden Triangle links three very different cities. Delhi layers empires and energetic neighbourhoods; Agra holds the world's most famous monument; Jaipur introduces the colour and royal heritage of Rajasthan.

Days 1–2: Delhi

Begin with two nights in the capital. Pair the grand geometry of New Delhi with a guided walk and rickshaw ride through Old Delhi. The contrast is the point: serene garden tombs, spice markets, quiet courtyards and some of the country's best food.

Day 3: Agra

Travel to Agra and visit the Taj Mahal in the softer late-afternoon light. Allow time for Agra Fort too; its pavilions and courtyards give context to the family story behind the Taj.

Days 4–6: Jaipur

Stop at Fatehpur Sikri en route, then spend two full days in Jaipur. Explore Amer Fort early, visit the City Palace and watch the changing light on Hawa Mahal. A market walk or home-hosted dinner brings the city down to a human scale.

Day 7: Onward

Return to Delhi or continue into Rajasthan. The best first visit should feel complete but leave a few doors open—India has a way of making travellers curious about what lies beyond the next one.
